The stars shine bright this frosty night
In silent watch they’re keeping;
But tap, tap, tapping on the roofs
I hear the sound of prancing hoofs,
Though all the world is sleeping.
And high and clear, a chime I hear,
Like fairy sleighbells ringing;
Oh! can it be to you and me
That Santa Claus so magic’ly
Our Christmas joy is bringing?
A little bump, a tiny thump,
Then down the chimney sliding;
In coat of red, with cap on head,
This jolly man has quickly sped,
His pack behind him riding.
He looks to see where stockings three
Beside the fire are showing,
With hearty will, each one he’ll fill,
Then up the chimney, light and still,
Dear Santa Claus is going.
